At around 4:30 p.m., firefighters with the Houston Fire Department (HFD), along with the Mat-Su Borough Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and the Alaska State Troopers responded to reports of a plane crash near the Dilley Estates subdivision in Houston.

Crews located the plane, a 1947 Stinson 108, which had crashed into a wooded area, ending up nose-down into the ground. HFD reports that two people were on board and that the pilot and passenger suffered only minor injuries and declined medical transport after an on-scene assessment by EMS.

In true Alaskan style, neighbors who witnessed the incident quickly hopped on ATVs and snow machines to provide assistance, actions the HFD acknowledged on social media.

“It is always easy to find the real Alaskans - when there's trouble, they are solving it,” the HFD wrote on their Facebook page.

“HFD would like to extend our highest appreciation to the residents nearby for leaping into action to save their fellow Alaskan. They called 9-1-1 immediately to get rescuers coming, hopped onto ATVs and snow machines to access the plane, helped get the occupants out, moved them away from the leaking fuel, and being moral support while rescue was headed their way. They were still on scene when we left, too, helping the occupants recover their cargo and supplies from the aircraft.”

HFD Chief Christian Hartley says that the scene has been turned over to the Alaska State Troopers for further investigation.

This is a developing story.
