On Nov. 19 an Anchorage grand jury indicted Sgt. 1st Class Damian Rodriguez, 39, on one count of assault in the first degree, one count of assault in the second degree, two counts of assault in the third degree, one count of coercion, one count of terroristic threatening, and one count of tampering with physical evidence.
On Sept. 29, Rodriguez allegedly threatened to kill then strangled and beat his girlfriend.
Rodriguez was arraigned in Anchorage Superior Court on Friday, Nov. 29. Rodriguez is a soldier in the U.S. Army and is stationed at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.
This case was investigated by the Anchorage Police Department’s Domestic Violence Unit, in partnership with the U.S. Army’s Criminal Investigative Division.
These charges in the indictment are only allegations and are not evidence of guilt. Rodriguez is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the prosecution must prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
