SOLDOTNA — A night after squandering a two-goal lead and losing in overtime, the Soldotna hockey team delivered a shutout.
The Stars rebounded from Friday’s 3-2 loss to Colony in extra time with a 3-0 win over Wasilla in North Star Conference action Saturday at the Soldotna Sports Center.
With the split, the Stars are 9-2-1 on the year.
“It was very nice,” SoHi coach Aaron Swanson said. “The guys came out and played a lot better tonight.”
The Stars scored once each period against the Warriors, with Josh Kerkvliet, Dalton Pearson and Jonas Perletti lighting the lamp.
Goaltender Cody Harvey did the rest, making 28 saves.
The netminder got a lot of help from Shayne Miller, Swanson said.
“He might not have been on the scoresheet, but he had a really good game,” the coach said of Miller.
Swanson was impressed with his side’s resolve on the heels of a tough loss against Colony on Friday, when the Stars took a 2-0 lead into the third only to see it slip away before losing in overtime.
The Warriors, who finished 1-1-1, scored a 2-1 win over Homer in Homer on Friday. Chancie Hanson tallied the game-winning goal at the 9:54 mark of the third, with help from Tegan Harrington and Brett Keene.
Jake Elwell gave the Warriors the 1-0 lead, scoring early in the first.
