When it comes to getting in your exercise, some days are harder than others.
On certain days it’s just hard to find time and break away to the gym.
Work.
Kids.
Sometimes you’re just tired.
And when you finally make it to the gym, sometimes you just feel tired.
When I arrived at the AT&T Sports Center on Thursday, I was energized. There was a spring in my step. And when you’re a bigger guy, having a spring in your step is somewhat significant.
I hit the treadmill, and managed to keep going for an hour. I mixed three-minute walks with seven-minute jogs for a half-hour, and then did a half-hour at varying inclines.
I certainly got the blood pumping and the body sweating, but I felt great.
Afterward, I followed with another half-hour on the elliptical.
I walked out of the Sports Center’s cardio room with a sense of enthusiasm.
On Friday, it was a different story.
I changed my recent routine just a bit. I went later in the day, rather than in the morning. I also had a bigger than usual breakfast. Bigger, but still sensible.
Egg beater omelette with chicken and peppers for those interested.
I am not sure if either played a factor, but I just felt a little off.
I still muscled through my planned workout. Once again, I did an hour on the treadmill. I started by mixing the walk and jog, and followed with the varying inclines. But it just seemed more difficult to get through.
I made it through the hour, which I am happy about, although I can’t deny I wanted to quit a few times.
After the treadmill, I hit the weight room for a few sets. I did three sets on two different machines, and decided to cap the workout with a half-hour on the elliptical.
Again, it seemed tough to make it through, but I did.
Like many things in life, it’s amazing how much your mindset plays a factor. Exercise isn’t just physically, it’s psychological.
Actually, the mental aspect is huge when it comes to exercise and weight loss.
I could have easily just called it a day 20 minutes into my work on the treadmill.
Who’s watching, right?
I could also easily dive into a giant bag of Doritos tonight, because who’s watching?
By participating in Trim to Win and exercising more, we are improving ourselves physically. But it’s also a challenge mentally.
Continued luck to all,
