‘Something amiss’ with selection

To the editor:

As a concerned parent of both a Wasilla High School student and a Wasilla Middle School student, I am well versed in the workings and culture in both of these buildings.

I am not happy with the way things have transpired regarding the principal selection. Something is amiss. While I don’t buy into all of the rumors being thrown around about the issues at hand, I always tell my kids that if something doesn’t seem right, it probably isn’t. I understand that changes have to be made for the greater good of the district. Some of them are not always the popular choices, but the uproar our superintendent has caused with his actions has to make you stop and think.

I applaud Mark Ewing for standing up and letting his opinion be known. I hope all the school board members have been reading the comments in the Frontiersman following the story about Mark’s reaction to Burnley. Please consider all of these taxpayers’ comments as a wake-up call. I believe the make-up of the school board may look very different come next election if something isn’t resolved.

A smart parent knows that telling your children to “do as I say, not as I do” is a lost cause in today’s society. Children learn from your actions, right or wrong. We hear the drum beat of “hire Alaskan” and keep our kids educated here so they stay and continue to grow Alaska in the future. You have done a disservice to our children by failing on both accounts.

Please consider yourselves responsible, as it was your actions that hired this man from outside, someone with no ties to our community.
