To the editor:
As I grow older, religious explanations of creation are less acceptable and new scientific discoveries open up more mysteries. Even so, there is some truth in certain religious beliefs, and I still think science will eventually find answers to almost everything.
In the meantime, our curious minds require most of us to develop our own worldview that is based on personal knowledge, experience and imagination in order for us make sense of things for the time being.
My personal scenario of existence is based on the idea that the principles of intelligence and the force of emotion are omnipresent characteristics of empty space that came together and formed primordial logic, which is the creative force of the universe. The synergy of the union caused the Big Bang and established a dynamic field of force, where intelligence is outwardly expressed through the laws of physics and emotion is manifested as a will to live. In time, a particular species of hominid achieved self-consciousness, which resulted in human individuality and the development of a non-physical human inner-self — and a whole new spiritual dimension of existence.
The realm of matter and life are governed respectively by primordial logic’s intelligent laws of physics and the simple consciousness of an emotional will to live. But self-conscious human beings govern themselves — to some extent — through reason and passion, which are specialized applications of primordial logic. Reason enables us to pursue both the good of the group and our own best interest, while passion impels us to strive for emotional experience that makes our life worth living. In spite of being subject to the laws of physics, nature and human culture, we live in a self-made world of our own and we are responsible for our current state of being. At death, our nonmaterial inner self enters the spiritual realm of the soul, which is governed by primordial logic and a system of reincarnation.
At the death of the very first human being, its inner self entered the spiritual realm of souls and found an empty “nothingness,” where it realized it needed a physical body if it was to continue to experience human life. So the soul established a symbiotic relationship with a newborn hominid by entering its body with its first breath of air, which activated the consciousness of the baby’s human inner self. Then the soul stepped back and became an objective observer of the newborn babe, who was free to establish a will and a life of its own. Simply put, our soul activated our self-consciousness at birth in exchange for the privilege of witnessing the total experience of our human lifetime.
In the afterlife, our individuality continues to exist along with the kindred spirits who preceded us in the long history of our common soul — as we resume ties with our recent dearly departed loved ones. Our human lifetime has been somewhat like a single day in the eternal life of our soul.
