Late Friday night, the Alaska Avalanche found themseleves facing elimination, thanks to a 4-2 loss to Wenatchee. The Avs have suffered losses in two of the first three games of Alaska’s first-round playoff series against Wenatchee, but it has nothing to do with the play of Kyle Pichler.
The second-year forward has basically carried the Avs on the offensive end of the rink. Pichler scored four of Alaska’s seven playoff goals in three games. In the first game — a 4-3 Alaska overtime win — Pichler gave the Avs a 3-2 lead in the third and supplied the game-winner during the extra period. In games three and four, the former South Anchorage standout Pichler scored first-period goals to give Alaska the 1-0 lead.
Pichler holds the franchise record for goals in a career with 37, and word is, there could be interest from some Division I programs.
Judging by what Pichler has done at the prep and junior levels, I thinking he’s worthy of a shot at the DI rink.
