PALMER -- Spenard Builders Supply announcedlast week that it will open a new store in Palmer in April 2004. The building, located on 10 acres at 97 Inner Springer Loop, is being renovated to include warehouses, offices, a design center and millworks displays. SBS' existing Wasilla Homesteader's Division also will merge with the new Palmer store.
"We've looked at expanding into Palmer for some time," said SBS President Ed Waite. "When we became aware of the site off Springer Loop, we looked at it more seriously. That, coupled with sustainable residential growth in the Valley, persuaded us that now was the time to expand."
The new store will be the third SBS Valley location. Once completed the site will offer 19,000-square-feet of building and warehouse space.
The new store will be staffed with existing employees, although SBS anticipates creating several new positions.
"This is a great time to work for SBS," said branch manager Joel Lynch. "We're only getting bigger and better, which means good things for our Valley customers."
Other SBS Valley store locations include the Big Lake store at the intersection of Big Lake Road and the Parks Highway, and the original Wasilla store at 1700 Parks Highway.
SBS is Alaska's largest building material supplier, with 13 locations around the state.
