Former Wasilla

volleyball player honored

Former Wasilla volleyball player Leisa Rosen, formerly known as Leisa Wissler, will be inducted into the Ohio State University Athletics Hall of Fame tonight. Wissler graduated from Wasilla High School in 1988 and was named the Alaska Sportsperson of the Year as a senior.

During her collegiate career at Ohio State, she took Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors in 1988 and first team All-America honors as a senior. She was named Big Ten player of the year and Ohio State athlete of the year as a senior.

Rosen is now an assistant coach at Michigan University.

Free racquetball clinic

The Alaska Club will offer several free racquetball clinics and exhibitions as a part of its open house celebration on Saturday, Sept. 15.

Ben Cuaresma and Tim Keaveny will offer a free racquetball instructional clinic from 2-3 p.m. Both clinics will introduce the sport of racquetball, with an explanation of basic strokes, strategy, game scoring, rules and hands-on practice.

The Team Wilson High School girls will give an exhibition from noon-1 p.m. A speed gun serving contest will take place from 1-2 p.m. and 4-5 p.m.

A men's open exhibition will be offered from 3-4 p.m.

Erdman dominates

Sprint events

Bob Erdman swept all four Sprint races Saturday night at Capitol Speedway in Willow.

Doug Fisher improved from a third-place finish in the trophy dash to take second in both heat races and the main event.
