Elks hoop shoot

The Palmer Elks Lodge will host a basketball hoop shoot, Sunday, Dec. 14 at 1 p.m. at Palmer High School.

Boys and girls ages 8-13 are welcome to participate.

ABC hoops camp

ABC Alaska is hosting a Christmas basketball camp Dec. 27- Jan. 3.

This six-day camp will feature five daily two-hour sessions for athletes aged 7-17.

Each session will include shooting instruction and drills, scrimmaging and instruction emphasizing the transition game, pick and roll motion offense, teamwork, rebounding and defense.

The cost of the camp is $95. Each participant will receive a T-shirt and chance to win awards in contests sponsored by the clinic.

The camp is sponsored by the Wasilla High School booster club.

Matanuska

Basketball Association

Organization is now under way for this year's Matanuska Basketball Association adult recreational basketball league. League games begin in the middle of November and continue through March.

Scheduled gym times are Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings.

Teams will normally play once or twice per week. Teams are being organized now and sponsor fees are required.

Team packets must be turned in to the Matanuska Basketball Association by Nov. 5 to have a team.

Power

volleyball league

Valley Volleyball League is sponsoring power volleyball for adults this winter.

This session of the league caters to adults wanting to play a fast game of organized volleyball to improve their skills.

There will be open games as well as in-house matches and tournaments.

Teams may also choose to compete in Anchorage. This is a great way to get exercise and stay in shape during the winter months.

The league plays at Palmer Junior Middle School, Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Registration must be completed and a league fee of $30 must be paid, prior to participating.

Indoor soccer tryouts

Arctic Winter Games Team Alaska announces tryouts in the sport of indoor soccer for the Anchorage/Mat-Su and Kenai/Homer areas. Athletes who are selected at this tryout will be part of Alaska's 377-person delegation to the 2004 Arctic Winter Games, scheduled for Feb. 28 through March 6, 2004 in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada.

Tryouts are conducted Saturday Dec. 6 and Dec. 7 at Gruening Middle School in Eagle River.

The top four athletes selected in each of five age groups will go on to join the eight-member teams being selected from around the state. Each athlete selected must pay the Team Alaska Registration fee of $555. Indoor Soccer athletes must pay an additional $70 coaching fee.

Tryout times are: Juvenile male (born in 1989 or later) -- Dec. 6 from 3-4:30 p.m., and Dec. 7 from 8-9 a.m.; junior male (born in 1987 or later) -- Dec. 6 from 4:30-6 p.m., and Dec. 7 from 9-10 a.m.; juvenile female (born in 1989 or later) Dec. 6 from 6-7:30 p.m. and Dec. 7 from 10-11 a.m.; junior female (born in 1987or later) -- Dec. 6 from 7:30-9:00 p.m. and Dec. 7 from 11 a.m.-12 p.m.; intermediate female (born in 1985or later) -- Dec. 6 from 8:30-10 p.m., Dec. 7 from 11 a.m.-12 p.m.

Candidates must be in attendance the first day of tryouts. The second day of tryouts will be by invitation only.Please bring with you proof of medical insurance, and government issued identification such as a birth certificate, passport or State ID. The cost of the tryouts is $20 per person.
