Cornerstone competing in region tourney

Cornerstone Christian School boys and girls will be competing in the 1A District I Region 2 basketball tournament starting today at Wasilla Middle School.

The championship boys' game will be Saturday at 3:45 p.m. with the girls' game starting at 2:15 p.m.

First-place teams will advance to the state tournament April 4 through 6 in Anchorage.

Anchorage hosting women's hockey championships

Fifty teams from around the U.S. will converge on Anchorage April 3 through 7 for the 2002 USA hockey girls' and women's championships.

Girls' and women's teams from 11 districts across the country will skate in tournament play at Dempsey Anderson Ice Arena, Tesoro Sports Center and the Harry J. McDonald Memorial Center.

The tournament is the largest national championship tournament in Alaska hockey history, featuring 105 games.

Tickets will be available at the rinks, the Anchorage Marriott Downtown, Sheraton Anchorage Hotel and the Hilton Anchorage beginning April 2. Prices range from $12 to 25 for a full tournament pass and $4 to 8 for a daily pass. Children five and under are free.

Wasilla High School is looking for a head volleyball coach and a football cheerleading coach for the upcoming seasons.

Hockey clinic coming

The Robby Glantz International Power Skating clinic will be held at the Dempsey Anderson Ice Arena in Anchorage June 10-14.

The clinic is available to Mite and older players with instruction on technique, stickhandling and speed.

Groups are being formed in the Valley now to take advantage of discount offers.
