Miners looking

for homes

The Mat-Su Miners baseball organization is looking for available apartment space that can be donated to house coaches during the two-month baseball season. The Miners are also in need of families in the community that can offer a room in their home for players during the season.

Disabled vets program provides opportunities

The Alaska Disabled Veterans Sports Program (ADVSP) is providing opportunities for novice competitors to compete in national rehabilitation sporting events scheduled throughout the year.

ADVSP will provide training, equipment and transportation for the participants to compete with other disabled veterans from the U.S., Puerto Rico and Great Britain.

MYFA clinics and registration set

The Matanuska Youth Football Association will be holding its spring football clinic and competition day May 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Colony Middle School. The fee is $15, which includes a MYFA T-shirt. A punt, pass and kick competition will be held at the end of the program, with prizes awarded to the winners.

Registration for MYFA will take place May 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the MYFA clubhouse.

Basketball camp scheduled

A basketball camp for boys entering sixth grade through high school seniors is scheduled for June 13 through 15. The camp is directed by Colony High School coach Phil Engebretsen and will feature Charlotte Hornets' guard Bryce Drew and Valparaiso coaches Homer and Scott Drew.

The camp will focus on developing the skills necessary to be successful in the game of basketball, as well as provide exposure and insight for players who have the potential to play at the collegiate level.

The Anchorage Aces have added new benefits for becoming a season ticket holder and for purchasing group tickets for the 2002-03 hockey season.

Hockey clinic coming

The Robby Glantz International Power Skating clinic will be held at the Dempsey Anderson Ice Arena in Anchorage June 10-14.

The clinic is available to Mite players and older with instruction on technique, stickhandling and speed.
