The Frontiersman would like to feature any news on the progress of former Valley athletes as they compete on the collegiate or professional level.

If your child or former athlete is taking their athletic skills to the next level, please let us know. We are interested in any news, honors, or achievements pertaining to our "Hometown Heroes."

Wasilla basketball

dinner and auction

The Wasilla Warriors basketball booster club will be hosting its annual prime rib dinner and auction Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Warriors boys' and girls' basketball programs.

In addition to the dinner and auction, entertainment will be provided at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Funds earned from the event will be used to purchase uniforms and equipment and cover travel expenses.

The booster club is accepting all types of tax deductible donations that can be auctioned off. Examples of items donated in the past include art prints, lodging, gift certificates, fishing trips, guns, snow blowers, jackets and other sports paraphernalia. No item is too small.

Mat-Su Junior

Nordic Skiing

The Mat-Su Junior Nordic Ski Club is about to begin its 2002-03 season. The season starts Dec. 4 and will run through Feb. 15.

The club will meet Wednesday'sat Colony High School at 6 p.m. and also on Saturday mornings.

The club is for skiers from the ages of 8-13 and parents are welcome and encouraged to join in on the fun. For further information contact Howell Powter at 376-4379. Applications can be picked up at Edward Jones Investments in the Land Company Building in Wasilla.

Palmer and Wasilla High Schools are both looking for coaches for the current athletic season.

Palmer is currently seeking a cross-country skiing assistant coach and a basketball cheerleading coach.

Wasilla is looking for assistant basketball and cheerleading coaches.

Those interested can contact Doug Bean at 376-5341.

Adult volleyball league starting

The Valley Volleyball League is about to start. This league is for adults interested in a fast game of volleyball. Matches will occur following The Northern Lights Volleyball Club matches on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-9 p.m. at Palmer Junior Middle School.
