PALMER - Mark Strabel ran the Colony Days 5K race in 15 minutes 58 seconds to finish first in that annual event. He competed in the 20-to-29 age group.
Margaret Cunningham was the first woman to cross the finish line, and the 15th runner overall, in 19:56.

Colony Days mountain bike race results
PALMER - Taylor Buxton finished a 13.5-mile mountain bike course in 1 hour, 4 minutes and 50 seconds to finish first in the adult men age group, and first overall, in the annual Colony Days mountain bike race.
Eddie Thomas, first in the 13-to-16 age group, was second overall in 1:06:17.

Iron Dog 2000 snowmachine entries sent to 500 hopefuls
WASILLA - Entry forms have been sent to some 500 potential entrants for the 18th Tesoro Iron Dog 2000. There are only 110 slots to be filled in the snowmachine race.
The race starts on Feb. 18, 2001, a Sunday, at Wasilla, and runs to Nome and then Fairbanks. The race was formerly known as the Iron Dog Gold Rush Classic.
Applications will be accepted until Aug. 15. If there are more than 110 entries, then the race slots will be filled by lottery, according to a press release from the organizers.
Entry fees are $3,460 for the pro class and $1,130 for an individual in the trail class.

Runners, walkers can go 5K for Valley libraries
PALMER - Applications are now available for runners and walkers interested in taking part in the Mat-Su Valleys summer family fun run called AT&T Race for Technology.
The 5K event will benefit the six libraries in the Mat-Su Borough, and will start at the Palmer Public Library at 10 a.m. June 24, a Saturday. AT&T Wireless Services is the main sponsor for the event. Proceeds go to the Valleys library automation network (LAN), which is the shared electronic source of information for public libraries throughout the Mat-Su Borough.
Registration forms can be picked up at any of the branch libraries, at the Anchorage public library, at any of the AT&T Wireless Services locations, and at the AT&T Wireless Services kiosks at Wal-Mart stores in Wasilla, Eagle River and Anchorage.
Early registration must be postmarked by June 22, or dropped off at the Palmer or Wasilla libraries by June 23. The cost is $20 for adults ($25 after June 23) and $10 for children under 13 ($13 after June 23). As many as four family members can register together for $40 ($47 after June 23). Race-day registration runs from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 at the Palmer Public Library.
There will be post-race events, including costumed book characters played by members of Valley Performing Arts, food and beverages, music, used-book sales and face-painting.
Trophies will be awarded for the top five boys and girls, and the top three men and women.

Salmon derby leader takes another big one
WASILLA - The fisher who was already leading the Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce King Salmon Derby has increased his lead.
Josh Bolinder brought in a 50-pound, 4-ounce king salmon, which is not only the heaviest fish for the second week of the derby, but the heaviest so far.
The derby continues until July 4.
In the first week of the derby, Bolinder, of Wasilla, hauled in a king salmon that weighed 47 pounds, 1 ounce.
Both of Bolinders fish were taken out of Willow Creek.
Second place for the week went to Larry Myer, who had a 47-pound, 7- ounce king salmon from the Deshka River.
