Ten athletes representing four high schools and the Susitna Shooters, comprised of middle school students, flew to Juneau for a 300-target shotgun sports competition in Trap, Wobble Trap, Double Trap, and Super Sporting this past weekend, coming home with numerous trophies and medals!

Lucas Nevada of Wasilla Warriors YESS walked away with the High Overall Champion trophy, breaking 265 targets out of 300. In the Senior Varsity division, Nevada also earned a first in Super Sporting and second in Double Trap. High All Around in the Senior Varsity division went to Isaac Grandel of Palmer Moose YESS with an overall score of 251, and HAA Runner-Up with 249 points went to Colony Knights YESS Quinn Benson. Isaac Grandel took first in Double Trap, and second in Super Sporting. Quinn Benson was in a tough 3-way shoot off for second and third place in Trap, which lasted several rounds before he lost in sudden death to Drake Johnson of Sitka.

In the Intermediate division (seventh and eighth graders), Teeland Middle School student Logan Fitch of Susitna Shooters broke an amazing 246 targets to earn the High All Around Intermediate trophy, as well as first-place medals in Trap, Wobble Trap, and Super Sporting, and a second by shoot off in Double Trap. Van Morrisett, also Susitna Shooters, took HAA Runner-Up with 231 points, and a second in Trap, Wobble, and Super Sporting, with the first by shoot off in Double Trap. Su Shooter Owen Smith took third in Doubles and Super Sporting, giving Susitna Shooters a sweep in Doubles and Super Sporting! Bristol Ness, a brand new member of the team, did exceptionally well for a beginner and placed fifth in Wobble Trap!

The competition drew 10 AlaskaYESS teams from Juneau, Sitka, Petersburg, Ketchikan, Tok, and Mat-Su, and athletes from 4th through 12th grades participated in the event.
