WASILLA — The Colony Knights are back in the state title game.
Colony scored a 1-0 win over previously undefeated Service during the ASAA/First National Bank State Soccer Championships boys’ semifinals at Service High School in Anchorage.
Senior Kyle Dearborn delivered the game-winner with less than 20 minutes left in regulation. Dearborn took advantage of a Service turnover in its defensive zone. The senior took possession near the top of the box, and fired a low shot in the left corner of the net to produce the game’s lone goal. The win comes a day after Colony scored a 4-2 quarterfinal win over Dimond in a rematch of the 2018 Division I boys state title game. Dimond edged Colony 1-0 in a shootout to win the title last season.
Colony will now face West Anchorage in the championship game Saturday at 5 p.m. at Service.
The Colony boys were one of three Valley teams in the Division I semifinals Friday. Both Colony and Wasilla suffered 1- 0 losses during the Division I girls’ semis. Dimond edged Colony and South Anchorage slipped past the Warriors.
Rivals Colony and Wasilla will meet in the Division girls’ third-place game Saturday at 1:15 p.m. at Service. Colony and Wasilla tied 1-1 during their first meeting of the season, and the Knights edged Wasilla 1-0 last week.
Three Valley teams saw their seasons come to an end on Friday. South Anchorage beat Wasilla 3-1 in the Division I boys consolation semifinals. Monroe Catholic beat Palmer 3-1 in the Division II boys consolation semifinals. Homer scored a 4-0 win over Palmer in the Division II girls semifinals.
