WASILLA — As the Houston Hawks prepared for their seventh game of the season, there were still a few different scenarios in the Peninsula Conference. But Houston proved once again, there’s no room for argument when it comes to who is the best team in the conference.
Houston improved to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play with a 65-0 dismantling of Ketchikan Sept. 27 at Houston High School.
The Houston defense pitched a shutout for the second straight week and third time this season. Houston’s 65 points was a season high. The Hawks have outscored Peninsula opponents 179-14, have scored more points in four conference games than any other Peninsula team has scored during the first seven weeks of the season. Houston has 276 points overall.
Owen Mulhaney led Houston with 158 yards rushing and two touchdowns, on only eight carries. Tucker Croghan added 42 yards rushing and two scores. Gavin Mulhaney rushed for 75 yards and a touchdown. Kennedy Fono needed only four carries to gain 67 yards and a touchdown.
Houston also clinched home field advantage during the Division III semifinals with the win. The Hawks will host defending state champion Eielson during the first weekend of the Alaska postseason. The Hawks will also host rival Redington Friday at 7 p.m. Redington was eliminated from the playoffs with a loss at Barrow in Week 7.
