Colony scored a huge win, and Houston and Wasilla continued their fast starts to the 2022 Alaska prep football season.
The Knights upset defending Division I state champion East Anchorage 24-21 Friday night at Colony High School. Knights all-around standout Jack Nash tossed a pair of touchdown passes on offense. On defense, Nash returned an interception for a score.
Colony improved to 2-0 overall and the Knights snapped East’s six-game winning streak.
The win marked Colony’s first victory over East since the Knights upset the top-ranked Thunderbirds 28-27 during the first round of the Division I playoffs in 2019.
Colony continues its season at Dimond Saturday at 7 p.m.
Houston and Wasilla also improved to 2-0 with big wins.
Houston, the Division III state runner-up in 2021, beat Homer 46-0. Hayden Howard returned two interceptions for touchdowns and also caught a touchdown pass. Mark Kudryn rushed for a team-high 61 yards and two touchdowns. Keldin Nicoll rushed for a score and threw for another.
The Hawks are now 2-0 and have outscored their opponents 91-0.
Wasilla also improved to 2-0 and also has not allowed a point this year after beating Chugiak 34-0.
Quarterback Jaidus Huffman threw for 150 yards and four touchdowns. Timothy Grisso finished with five catches for 95 yards and two scores. Max Larson caught two passes, both for touchdowns.
Isaiah Smith led Wasilla with 68 yards rushing and a touchdown.
Wasilla hosts North Pole Friday at 7 p.m.
In other action, defending Division II state champion Lathrop beat Palmer 54-0 in Fairbanks.
