Colony senior linebacker Zane Vrvilo has been recognized by USA Today.

PALMER — USA Today recently listed a trio of Colony High seniors among Alaska’s best high school football players in 2018.

Seniors Julian McPhail, Zane Vrvilo and Noah Krozel were named to the All-USA Alaska Football Team by USA Today High School Sports, a national online sports publication. McPhail, who was named Alaska’s Division I Utility Player of the Year, landed on USA Today’s first-team at wide receiver. McPhail, who was also named first-team all-state at both running back and kick returner, finished with nearly 600 yards of total offense. As a wide receiver, McPhail caught 27 passes for 475 yards and five scores. He finished with 115 yards rushing and a touchdown. McPhail also returned four kickoffs for a touchdown and an interception for a score.

He averaged 17.6 yards per catch and 8.1 yards per run.

Vrvilo led a Colony defense that shutout three straight opponents at the end of the regular season and beginning of the postseason.

Krozel was the top kicker in Alaska as a senior.

McPhail, Vrvilo and Krozel helped the Knights finish second in the Chugach Conference and advance to the second round of the Division I state playoffs.

Colony quarterback Eric Christy and offensive lineman Ethan Connaker were named to the second team. Palmer senior offensive lineman Parker Smith represented to the Moose on the list.
