The Wasilla Warriors used a win over a rival to capture the maroon bracket crown during the final day of the Lady Lynx Shootout Saturday in Anchorage.
Bella Hays collected 18 points and 16 rebounds, and led Wasilla to the 49-32 win over the Palmer Moose. Jazylnn Novelli added 15. Harmony McSorley chipped in eight.
Lilly Anderson led Palmer with 11.
Palmer and Wasilla earned consecutive wins to reach the final.
Palmer edged Ketchikan 42-41 in the semifinals of the shootout’s maroon bracket Friday. Catherine Uschmann led the Moose with 14 points. Uschmann scored eight of Palmer’s 15 points in the fourth. The Moose outscored Ketchikan 15-10 during the final quarter.
Palmer rallied to beat conference rival Kodiak 40-36 on Thursday. The Moose trailed 20-9 at halftime. Uschmann led Palmer with 14. Livia Solis added nine.
Wasilla also scored a win in the maroon bracket semifinals Friday, beating conference rival Soldotna 47-28. Hays led Wasilla with 13 points and seven rebounds. Novelli added nine points and four steals. The Wasilla defense forced 29 turnovers and held the Stars to single-digit scoring in all four quarters.
Wasilla beat defending state champion Dimond 62-44 Thursday. Hays finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Novelli scored a game-high 28.
Colony was the lone Valley team in the event’s gold bracket, and the Knights rebounded with a double-overtime win over West Valley Friday. Hannah Duguid hit a pair of threes in overtime to lead the Knights to a 61-58 win over the Wolfpack. Duguid finished with 12 points. Tori Schwantes and Indiya Clarke led Colony with 14 each.
Colony capped its tourney with a 39-30 win over Bartlett in the gold bracket fourth-place game. Clarke scored 11 points.
Chugiak beat Colony on Thursday.
