PALMER — Wasilla speedster Karina Barria led the Warrior girls to a solid fourth-place finish in this weekend’s Valley Invitational.

The sprint swimmer won the 50-yard freestyle and 100 butterfly in 25.12 and 1:02.29 respectively, while Mariah Schachle won the 1 meter diving event to pace Wasilla to 32 team points, a shade off third-place Kenai Central.

Kodiak was the big winner at the invite, with the Bears dominating both the men’s and women’s events. The Bears scored a combined 196 points, more than double second place Homer at 83.

The Palmer girls joined Wasilla in the top 10 with a ninth-place showing with 11 team points. For the boys, the Valley placed three teams in the top 10 — Colony tied with North Pole for sixth with 27 points, Wasilla eighth with 14 and Palmer ninth with 10.

Colony diver Connor Eshelman continued his strong season, winning the 1 meter diving event with 340.05 points.
