Local pyrotechnics enthusiast and also Palmer Citizen of the Year Stan Guthrie dazzled the remaining shoppers from Small Business Saturday with his annual fireworks celebration that began at 7:19 p.m. on Saturday. Spectators gathered in front of the Palmer Train Depot and bundled up for the lengthy fireworks extravaganza put on by Guthrie every year. Guthrie celebrates his important personal anniversary each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, providing the most extravagant pyrotechnic display in the Valley each year. Hundreds gathered on freshly fallen snow beside newly constructed snowmen to watch the flying lights burst into color in the sky above the Palmer Public Library parking lot. Prior to the annual fireworks show, Guthrie was handed the Key to the City by Palmer Mayor Edna DeVries.
