Stars sweep Colony ski meet

TALKEETNA — Kenai Peninsula skiers swept the Colony Classic Ski Meet at Susitna Valley High School in Talkeetna Saturday, with Soldotna taking both the boys’ and girls’ team titles and Twin Cities athletes picking up the top individual spots.

Skyview’s Tommy Honer beat out Colony’s Mason Wick by 17 seconds in the boys’ 10-kilometer classic race, finishing in 41 minutes, 35 seconds.

Dunedin Strickland was Palmer’s top racer in fourth place, while teammate Davis Dunlap was fifth. Wasilla’s Baruch Chamberlain was 19th to lead the Warriors, while Elias Holt was 29th for Su Valley.

The Colony boys finished second overall, Palmer was third and Wasilla finished seventh.

Kenai Central’s Molly Watkins won the girls’ 6.6-kilometer classic race, finishing in 30:26 to edge SoHi’s Kailey Mucha by 11 seconds. Colony’s Heidi Doner was the top Mat-Su girls’ finisher in 10th place. Kimberly Del Frate was 18th to lead the Palmer girls, while Kiersten Wilber was 29th for Wasilla.

The Colony girls were third overall, Palmer was fourth and Wasilla eighth.
