The Wasilla Wild U18 Midget Tier III squad won its second straight state championship earlier this year. The Wild edged the South Anchorage Mighty Moose 2-1 in the finals. Chance Morrison scored the game-winning goal, with an assist from Jeremiah Ray. Blake Marks also scored in the win. The Wild won twice on the first day of the tourney. The local team beat South Anchorage 5-1. Morrison and Marks each scored twice. Ray also scored. Wasilla beat Fairbanks 4-1. Marks and Austin Rauchenstein finished with two goals each. Wasilla also beat the AHA Comets 4-3. Marks, Layne Morrison, Dalton Wooten and Danica Smith scored for the Wild. The team also won the President’s Day Tournament in Anchorage for the second straight season, finishing first in the U18 Midget D class.
