PALMER — A man accused of molesting an 11-year-old girl had his sexual abuse charges dropped last week.

After the charges were dropped Nov. 18, Arthur I.F. Demers, 32, currently stands accused only of a low-level assault charge.

“The charges against Arthur were dropped, and it is partly due to a follow-up interview with the alleged victim where she clarified the conduct on the night in question,” attorney Jon-Marc Petersen, who represents Demers’ wife in an unrelated misdemeanor case, wrote in an email.

Demers was arrested after Alaska State Troopers were called to a report he was suicidal at his home off of Wildwood Drive on Nov. 15. As of Monday afternoon, he was still listed as an inmate at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility.
