Department of Health and Social Services officials reported 12 new COVID-19 cases in the state and another coronavirus related death Sunday.
A 73-year-old from Anchorage died in an Anchorage hospital March 28. The person was tested on March 23 and admitted to the hospital. It’s the second in-state COVID-19 death. On March 27, state officials reported the death of an Anchorage woman at Alaska Native Medical Center. The first Alaskan whose death is related to coronavirus died in Washington state after testing positive for COVID-19 in Washington. The man had been away from Alaska for an extended period of time.
Of the 12 new cases reported Sunday, four are in Anchorage, four in Fairbanks, one in Eagle River, one in North Pole, one in Ketchikan and one in Juneau. Six of the 12 to test positive are close contact cases and one is travel related. Five cases are still under investigation.
There are now 114 total COVID-19 cases in Alaska, according to the latest count Sunday evening. There are 53 cases in Anchorage, 20 in Fairbanks and 13 in Juneau. There are only two reported cases in the Mat-Su Borough.
