To the editor:
My daughter brought your article to my attention, “A moose dies in your yard — now what?”
I, too, have this same concern, as there is a dead moose in my back yard, and the Alaska State Troopers and the Department of Fish and Game told us the same thing — it’s my responsibility.
It’s not my responsibility when the moose is alive, but it is when it’s dead and the state wants nothing to do with the carcass.
Their suggestion was for us to drag the dead moose out into the woods. I live in a subdivision in the Wasilla area and there are no woods around that aren’t in someone else’s yard.
I know that I have not had to pay state income taxes since I was a younger man, but I do pay my share of monies to help keep these state services funded, and when we, the residents of this state, need help the state backs away and lays its responsibilities on us.
I don’t expect anything to come of this. I’ve lived too long in this state and know better, but I just wanted to air my complaint.
