ANCHORAGE - During the three-day Northern Lights Conference Volleyball Championships, the Wasilla volleyball squad knocked off three teams with a higher seed en route to its first state tournament berth since 2004.
To move forward in the ASAA 4A state volleyball tournament, the Warriors are going to have to do the same thing. Wasilla will face South Anchorage, the two-time defending state champions, in the first round of the tournament that starts Thursday at West Anchorage High School. The first serve is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Wasilla is one of three Valley teams to advance to the state tourney. The Palmer Moose, who were crowned NLC champs after a thrilling five-game win over Colony on Saturday, will face Eagle River in the final match of the first round on Thursday. NLC runner-up Colony meets Mid-Alaska champion West Valley in the first match of the day at 2 p.m.
