Stephen Allen Montgomery, 59 of Palmer, Alaska, passed away Thursday, November 17, 2022 at the Mat-Su Regional Hospital. Steve succumbed to Pancreatic Cancer after a two-year battle.
Steve was born in Chicago, IL on January 3, 1963, to the late Russell and Mary Kashmer Montgomery.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Brenda Livesay Montgomery and daughter, Sarah (Jesse) Souza and three grandchildren: Lucas, Phoebe and Kaelyn.
He was preceded in death by his brother James Lee Montgomery of Murfreesboro, TN.
Steve earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Concord College in Athens, WV and Master’s Degree from West Virginia College of Graduate Studies, presently part of Marshall University Huntington, WV.
He began his teaching career in Fayette County Schools, Fayette County WV, where he taught for 13 years before moving to Alaska. Steve moved to Bethel, AK in 2001 and taught at Kilbuck Elementary for one year. He then moved to Palmer, AK in 2002, where he taught for the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District until his death. Steve enjoyed teaching and helping students.
Steve was also an NRA Certified Trainer Counselor and instructor, he frequently volunteered at the Matanuska Valley Sportsman (MVS) Shooting Range teaching firearms classes and working as a range safety officer. Steve also served as a member of the MVS Board of Directors in varying offices for many years.
Steve was member of the Manna Independent Baptist Church in Palmer, AK.
Steve was a kind and caring friend to many people; he was known for his sense of humor. He was an honest and trustworthy person, who tried to make things better wherever he worked.
Services will be at the Manna Independent Baptist Church, Palmer on Saturday, November 26, 2022.
Visitation at the church will be from 11AM to 1PM; services following at 1PM.
