To the editor:
Many Alaskans remember proudly the governorships of Hammond and Hickel. These men didn’t often lean on others for leadership. Year-round Alaska families clearly see we need better state leadership. Gubernatorial candidate Bill Walker has the same Alaska or Bust — We Can Do It — character as Hickel and Hammond. Bill Walker is the people’s best choice. Here’s why:
Walker’s knowledgeable plans are clearly stated. His solutions will get Alaska back on track.
“As governor, we’d start laying pipe within three years. Building the all-Alaska gasline will create thousands upon thousands of good-paying jobs for Alaskans. The all-Alaska line is a world-class gasline, appropriate in size for our large state,” says Walker. Other gas “in-state” lines, by any other name, are inadequate, junior-size projects.
Even in Alaska, politicians have a hard time comprehending the will of the people. Alaska’s natural resources are to be maximized for the benefit of Alaska’s people, clearly stated in the Alaska Constitution. We’re in luck. Bill Walker promises what Alaskans ordered in 2002, a directive of 138,000 voters to build the all-Alaska gasline. The corresponding statute is on the books (AS 41.41.010). The ROWs were previously approved for the All-Alaska line. The EIS docs? Complete. No more planning team study needed. Stop leaning on your D9 dozers, men — let’s get to work.
The all-Alaska gasline ensures Alaska reasonable expectation of profit including liquid natural gas (LNG) export jobs, natural gas liquid (NGL) manufacturing jobs and abundant, affordable energy for Alaska families way into the future and jobs. North Slope producers will have “reasonable expectation” of profit. BP stated they will ship gas if reasonable expectation of profit exists and in fact the leases obligate them to do so.
Stable energy production from Chugach Electric alone would be extremely helpful. HEA-Kenai Peninsula member-owned electric cooperative (April 1) will pass on to we consumers a 16.54 percent increase, mostly wholesale power cost adjustments from Anchorage-based Chugach Electric Association. We are all in serious need for affordable gas. Building the all-Alaska gasline ASAP will lead to reducing our electric bills.
Bill Walker, all-Alaska governor, is the only man running with immediate solutions who will guarantee fiscal certainty for Alaskans. Please make sure you’re registered Republican, Undeclared or Non-Partisan ready to vote for Bill Walker. This important primary election is Aug. 24.
