Houston sophomore Luke Wagner has been named the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman Student Athlete of the Week.
Wagner won the 220-pound title during the Denali/Kachemak Conference Championships in Seward last Saturday. Wagner, who finished second in the Mid-Alaska Conference Championships last season, pinned his way to his first conference title. Wagner scored a first-round pin of Glennallen’s Sol Finau in the finals. He pinned Grace Christian’s David Ward in the semifinals.
Wagner received a first-round bye to open the tourney. Wagner now heads to the ASAA/First National Bank 123A State Championships, which start Friday at Nikiski High School.
The Mat-Su Valley Fontiersman congratulates Wagner on his success.
