Wasilla’s Nate McKimson has been named the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman Student Athlete of the Week.
McKimson used a 7-6 come-from-behind win over Bartlett’s Talon Sturgill to win the 138-pound weight class durng the final round of the Lancer Smith Memorial at Palmer High School last Saturday.
McKimson, who placed fourth in the state tournament last year, used points late in the third period to earn the win. McKimson entered the tourney as the bracket’s third seed, and used a pair of pins and three wins by decision to score the title.
McKimson recorded a 36-second pin in the quarterfinals and beat Kotzebue’s Noah Roetman 11-0 in the semifinals.
