PALMER — Students at Colony Middle School were briefly evacuated this morning after officials learned a chemical was missing from a science laboratory.

No one was injured during the evacuation, and school officials said they’ve yet to locate the missing chemical.

It’s unclear as to what kind of chemical officials were referring to.

Middle school students were temporarily evacuated to neighboring Colony High School because the missing chemical was potentially harmful and dangerous, Mat-Su Borough School District Spokeswoman Catherine Esary said in a statement.

The Mat-Su Borough Hazmat team conducted a complete sweep through the building, which determined it was safe for students to return.

School will continue as normal for the remainder of the day, Esary said.
