The Kristan Cole Team recently awarded its annual Follow your Dreams scholarships to two local high school graduates.
More than 30 students submitted essays about teamwork to enter the annual scholarship contest. Palmer High class of 2012 graduates Lauren Hardy and Benjamin King were selected as this year’s winners.
Hardy, whose family owns the reindeer farm in Palmer, received a $1,500 scholarship. She said she developed her understanding of teamwork working on the farm with her family.
In her essay, she said teamwork is “a diverse group of people working together to use their strengths to cover another’s possible weakness in order to obtain a common goal.”
She plans to study biology at Brigham Young University and to become a veterinarian.
King is a guitar instructor and camp counselor who plans to attend a Christian college out of state.
He received a $1,000 scholarship.
“I have realized that teamwork is like a needle and thread.
“It is vital to the fabric of our lives, often makes an unrealized impact on the people around us, yet weaves our lives together,” he said. “Without it, our world would unravel.”
