MAT-SU — Last week, students from around the Valley joined with their peers from around the country in supporting national "Kick Butts Day," a program aimed at curbing teen smoking.
Mat-Su students from several schools, including Burchell High School and Houston Jr./Sr. High School, participated in community events designed to promote awareness about teen smoking issues April 4.
Local elementary and preschool students participated in a coloring contest, sponsored by the Mat-Su Tobacco Control Alliance, in which they will portray why people shouldn't smoke.
"Kick Butts Day" is the designated day when kids stand up to Big Tobacco and adults stand up for kids about smoking-related issues.
