On behalf of my fourth- and fifth-grade students and their families, I would like to thank Chuck Kaucic of the Wasilla Soil and Water Conservation District for his expertise in orchestrating the exciting Arbor Day celebration at Willow Elementary School.
My students will cherish their memories of the day and are very proud of their trees.
Thank you to Mat-Su Borough Mayor Larry DeVilbiss, who officiated at the ceremony proclaiming Arbor Day in the Matanuska Valley.
We send deep appreciation to Matanuska Electric Association, state arborist Bill Jardel, Howard Myers of MEA, Warren Templin of the Mat-Su Borough Parks and Outdoor Recreation Department, the Alaska Urban and Community Forestry Program and the Plant Material Center, all of which supported the event.
Thank you to Larkin Bounds, and parents and volunteers who helped each student plant their tree, to Mat-Su Borough School District public information officer Catherine Esary for archiving the event and to Principal Andy McDermott.
