Su Valley girls earn trip to state running meet

TALKEETNA — The Susitna Valley girls advanced to next week’s class 1-2-3A state championships with a second-place finish in the Region II Cross Country Running Championships at Susitna Valley High School in Talkeetna on Saturday.

Missy Scott paced the Rams by finishing in sixth place overall in a time of 22 minutes, 16.4 seconds, one spot ahead of teammate Ashley Evans.

Holly Kopp of Cook Inlet Academy won the girls’ race for the Eagles, which also took home the team title.

The top two teams in Region II advance to the state meet, as do the top-10 individual finishers.

Led by Mikey Stuart’s victory, the Heritage Christian boys earned the boys’ team title. Su Valley’s Paxson Matthews narrowly missed out on a trip to the state meet by finishing 11th, while Matthew Krepel was 12th.
