The Susitna Valley Rams scored a girls basketball win over a defending state champion.
The Rams beat Newhalen 40-29 Jan. 4 at Su Valley High School. Newhalen won a 1A state title last year.
Alana Barron and Cori Gossett scored 10 points each for Su Valley. Emma Kehoe added five.
Angela Anelon led Newhalen with 10 points.
The Su Valley boys beat Newhalen 56-48. Austin Fox led the Rams with 25 points. Carl Cassidy added 15.
The Rams also swept a pair of games against Effie Kokrine on Jan. 7. The girls scored a 59-6 win. Ashley Delima led Su Valley with 14 points. Gossett added a dozen.
The Su Valley boys won 56-34. Fox led the Rams with 16.
