To the editor:
The first National Public Works Week Golf Tournament was held May 21 at the Palmer Golf Course.
The weather was perfect for the 35 players who came out to enjoy an 18-hole scramble tournament. There were eight players from the Public Works Department, the city manager also played, as well as one member of the Palmer City Council. The other 25 participants were from businesses located in the Valley and Anchorage. There were prizes for first-, second- and third-place teams, as well as prizes for closest to pin and longest drive on a hole.
All the profits from this tournament are going into the city Parks and Recreation capital fund. We were able to raise $2,300 for this fund and hope to raise even more money next year.
For all those who didn’t come and play this year, mark your calendars for next year. We’ll hope for the same great weather and we guarantee a good time.
