The American Red Cross has a few suggestions for families or individuals looking for appropriate ways to commemorate the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Here are their suggestions.
Activities for you and your family:
Call family members to let them know how much they mean to you.
Get together for a family dinner or potluck.
Share a family activity -- go for a hike, play a game, go bowling.
Attend a memorial or a religious or spiritual service with your family.
Let bygones be bygones -- mend a broken fence.
Activities for you and your friends:
Lost touch with a friend? Give him or her a call.
Offer to walk a friend's dog, help with a home improvement project, teach someone a skill or run an errand.
Send a thoughtful card.
Whip up your favorite dessert or salad and give it to a friend.
Share fellowship -- get together with your friends.
Actions that benefit your community:
Donate a pint of blood.
Volunteer a couple of hours of your time to a charity.
Recycle.
Skip the garage sale and donate your used goods to charity.
If you see trash while walking outside, pick it up.
Be a positive influence in your area:
Hold the door open for the person behind you.
Practice being a considerate, conscientious and safe driver.
Feed an expired parking meter.
Assist a stranded motorist by calling for help.
Give someone a sincere compliment.
