TALKEETNA — In a change from the first several decades of Talkeetna’s annual Moose Dropping Festival, this year activities around the well-known festival are spread out across several weekends.
The theme of this year’s Moose Dropping Festival is “100 Years of Mountaineering,” which commemorates the first ascent of Denali on June 7, 1913. Moose Dropping events planned this season include:
• June 1 — Season opens with a month-long art exhibit.
• June 7 — 100-year anniversary, first ascent of Denali educational program.
• July 1 — Month-long art exhibit opens.
• July 4 — Moose on the Loose parade and auction.
• July 5 — Moose Drop games for all.
• July 6 — Mountain Mama Contest and kids games.
• July 13 — Small Moose Silent Auction, Moose Dropping One-Pitch Softball Tournament weekend, Moose Drop games and music.
• Aug. 1 — Month-long art exhibit opening for Neka Bender.
• Sept. 1 — Month long art exhibit opening for Cynthia Hill.
