MAT-SU — Nominations are sought for the fifth annual Summer of Heroes program sponsored by Alaska Communications and Boys and Girls Clubs.
Alaskans may nominate local youths who are making a difference in Alaska communities.
Summer of Heroes has honored 24 Alaskans, ages 6 to 18, with $36,000 in scholarships since the program began in 2011. Alaska Communications has donated an additional $60,000 to Boys and Girls Clubs-Alaska to support these important youth development programs.
Each year, the program selects five Alaska youths to receive a $1,500 scholarship through the UA College Savings Plan and a trip to a special recognition ceremony during the Alaska State Fair.
Nomination period ends July 15.
Parents, teachers, mentors, coaches and friends are encouraged to nominate the young heroes in their lives
