Sunshine, boxing, tennis and bowling.

What a beautiful day today! The sun was shining, the temperature was above freezing; days like today are rare for February in Alaska.

We have our five-year-old grandson staying with us for the weekend, which is always a special treat. He is so full of energy and wants to play non-stop. It was nice to have enough energy to almost keep up with him today.

We played outside for awhile, although the icy spots made it a little tricky to keep one’s balance at times. I also bought a Wii shortly after Christmas and we spent some time playing with that today, too. I am not usually one who likes to play video games, but I’ve found the Wii to be almost addictive. I like the Wii Sports games the best and found that they serve a purpose for exercise, too.

The bowling game is very realistic, but probably the least exertive of the sports games. The tennis and boxing games give the best workouts, especially playing against an energetic five-year-old. The baseball game is just a step above the bowling for exercise.

We played tennis for forty-five minutes this afternoon, one game after another. Then we went into bowling for about thirty minutes, and then right into a couple of robust boxing matches. Altogether, we played for nearly two hours and he still wanted more.

I finally managed to pull him away from the Wii and even talked him into helping me with some housework. He loves to dust and water the plants, so those were his primary jobs for the day. He’s now happily settled into watching SpongeBob Squarepants so I can take a few minutes to update my blog.

We’re just a few short weeks away from the two-thirds mark of the contest. We’re working on putting together some kind of celebration and public awards ceremony for the winners, so stay tuned for details. It will be fun to get together and celebrate our success.

Have a great weekend – what’s left of it anyway.
