‘Super Stars’ win high honors at competition

PALMER — The Super Stars were indeed super stars at the Dance Like No Ones Watching competition at Chugiak High School April 4 when the team competed along with others from Mat Valley Dance.

The Super Stars formed in 2007 and have performed at events and competitions around Alaska, including the state high school cheer and dance competition, the Alaska State Fair and at Palmer High School football games.

The group was honored with platinum and perfect score honors at the Dance Like No Ones Watching competition recently.

Other winners from Mat Valley Dance are:

Colby Nielsen was named Dancer of the Year and the boys hip-hop group Uptown Funk won second overall.

Among group and individual awards, the highest honor given is platinum.

Boys Hip Trio — platinum, overall second place; After Shock — platinum; Broadway — platinum; Super Stars: platinum, perfect score; Ballroom Team —platinum; Jazz 4 — high gold; Modern — high gold; Youth Jazz 2 — high gold; Lyrical 3 — high gold; and Hip Hop 2 — gold.

Solo and duet winners are: Colby Nielsen hip hop — platinum; Colby Nielsen tap — platinum; Brianna jazz — platinum; Colby Nielsen contemporary — high gold; Brianna hip hop — high gold; Kailianna hip hop — high gold; Ballroom duet Great Gatsby: high gold; Brianna lyrical — gold; Ballroom duet — gold; Ballroom duet — gold; and Ronnie lyrical — silver.
