Cardboard City is an annual event to raise awareness and funds to support homeless families in the area. Hosted by Family Promise Mat-Su, the seventh annual Cardboard City will take place at the Alaska State Fairgrounds July 18. Individuals or group participants will “rent” cardboard boxes to use as dwellings for one night. They will design and decorate their dwelling, brave the Alaska weather to sleep in it for one night, eat donated food from a “soup kitchen,” and learn about the life of the homeless in the Mat-Su Valley.
Opportunities are still available for corporate and individual sponsorship. Another way people can help is through participating in the Cardboard City sleepover.
Prizes will be awarded to individuals and groups in categories such as Best Dwelling, Largest Group, Most Money Raised, and Best Use of Duct Tape.
Family Promise Mat-Su is the only Alaska affiliate of a national interfaith organization helping homeless families all across the United States. Homeless families stay together in transitional housing in participating churches in the Mat-Su Valley. Your contribution to Family Promise Mat-Su is tax deductible as allowed under Section 501(c)(3) and Section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code. The ID number is 68-0510566.
