To the editor:
I had the pleasure of meeting Bob Havemeister at his wonderful dairy farm. I am a certified artificial inseminator of bovine and have worked, milked and delivered calves on a Grade A dairy farm in Minnesota. Bob’s cows are beautiful and friendly, and their milk is delicious.
Bob Havemeister is a fine human being whose father died when he was 2 years old. His mom raised her children and kept the farm alive after her husband’s unfortunate and untimely death.
Matanuska Creamery owes Bob thousands of dollars that he will probably never recover. They used to curse him when he asked for payment. Please support the local Havemeister Dairy Farm by purchasing his products at Fred Meyer. Bob’s dairy cows are very friendly. Many of them will lick you from head to toe if given the opportunity. They are healthy and beautiful and raised well. I love cows and appreciate and respect all that they have given to humanity. Please share this and come visit Bob’s dairy farm, which has been operating since 1935. Thank you very much for your consideration.
Also, I recently learned that the Wasilla and Palmer post offices are not recycling paper. I went to the mayor’s office in Wasilla and was directed to contact Alaska state representatives about this issue, which I did.
The disturbing matter is that the Palmer Post Office has several large blue locked designated recycling bins and customers are under the impression that the paper they deposit in these bins goes to the wonderful new Valley Community for Recycling Solutions, which is right down the road! This is false.
A postal worker in Palmer informed me that the Palmer Post Office only recycles cardboard and the paper goes into the landfill. The postal employee stated that the post office lacks the funds to take the recyclables to Valley Community for Recycling Solutions, which is literally right next to the dump!
This is ridiculous and wrong. This misguided policy hurts the Matanuska Valley. Please urge your state representatives to put pressure on the U.S. Post Office to recycle and mark “recycling” bins honestly. The paper you deposit in the large blue “recycling” bins in the Palmer Post Office goes into the landfill. This needs to changed, and together we can.
