To the editor:
I was reading the Sept. 7 Letters to the Editor and couldn’t agree more with Travis Flynn of Wasilla concerning our school board. Big Business and political groups should have no place in deciding our children’s future. We need people who genuinely care about our school system and the children in it.
That is why, for the first time in a long time, I am excited about the upcoming elections. There is candidate running this year that will bring a breath of fresh air to our school board. Jamey Duhamel has spent the last 15 years in public service. She has worked diligently advocating for children with disabilities, children who are victims of abuse and children in foster care programs. Jamey is one of those amazing people who has a desire to make things better for our children and puts her money where her mouth is. She doesn’t sit on the sidelines and wish things were different, she makes them different.
Jamey is outgoing, straight forward and fair-minded. She is willing to go to the mat for her beliefs, but is open-minded enough to change her opinion when warranted. Jamey has real solutions to the very real situations facing our schools now and in the coming years. She has been an active participant in school board meetings and is a member of the Mat-Su School District Program Based Budgeting Committee.
I’m incredibly excited to have her on the ballot and hope others take the time to learn about this amazing candidate.
