MEA’s current contract to purchase power from Chugach Electric expires Jan. 1, 2015. Though that may sound like a long way away, in fact it
requires thoughtful board action immediately.
Lois Lester and Kit Jones are looking at all the options on behalf of MEA ratepayers. They are demanding real cost figures to help make this vital decision. For example, they are reviewing the potential of local power generation, examining the possibility of extending our current purchase agreement, researching the opportunities from buying from a new provider, and exploring collaborative projects with other utilities.
In effect, Lois Lester and Kit Jones are acting as your advocates, just as we would expect our elected board members to do. We cannot afford to lose
Lester and Jones, especially at this crucial time when a new person would have to come up to speed on these complex issues.
