WASILLA — Fans began lining up at 5 a.m. today hoping to be the first to get an autograph from their local hero.

Returning to her Wasilla home for the holidays, Sarah Palin spent the afternoon signing copies of her memoir, “Going Rogue,” at the Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Center.

The mostly adoring crowd wrapped around the turf field waiting their turn to go up the stairs and shake hands with the former governor.

When the book signing started at 11 a.m., city officials estimated the crowd at 800 people with more arriving throughout the day. The signing was scheduled to continue until 2 p.m., after which the city will release a final head count.
