To the editor:
Pat Chesbro has been a champion for youth for more 40 years. I have worked with her as a teacher and administrator. As a teacher and educational leader, she worked to create the conditions for student success. However, there are often obstacles that impair children’s success. One issue is hunger.
In 2010, the Legislature had a chance to break down that obstacle by supplementing the federal breakfast/lunch program. This subsidy allows districts to offer nutritious breakfasts to eligible children and enhances lunch offerings. However, Bill Stoltze, House Finance co-chair, would not even let the bill out of committee to be voted on by the House. The cost was about 50 cents per day per student. This is a disgraceful reminder of Stoltze’s priorities. Educational support is clearly not a priority for him.
We need a change in leadership. I am voting for Pat Chesbro for Senate. She will fight for children and education.
